Jan 11 - 2015 | Just about everyone has a story about an elderly relative that
seemly has beat-the-odds and does not need glasses in later years. How can this be possible considering what was
talked about in my previous blog entry?
If the lens in the eye become stiff for everyone… then everyone should
need eventually glasses… no? Not
exactly. There are several common reasons
when some folks can see well years after they should have needed reading
glasses. #1 – underlying refraction (nearsightedness, farsightedness,
astigmatism) In the right proportions
and having different refractions between the right and left eyes (e.g. right eye
is nearsighted while left eye has no significant refractive error) is the most
common reason. #2 – smaller pupils With age, our
pupils get naturally smaller and the depth of focus increases (like a pinhole
camera) and this can give enhanced vision in good light. #3 – surgery
Advanced cataract surgery for cataracts can eliminate the need for glasses for
both near and far vision. dr.j StudioEyeCare.com
