A different astigmatism explaination...

Feb 8 - 15  | If you have astigmatism, you have likely heard the anaolgy of "your eye being shaped more like a football than a baseball".  Perhaps another way to look at this is a more functional view.   If you had no astigmatism, your nearsighed (or farsighted) measure would be the same in all orientations.  i.e. You could take the lens in your glasses and spin it 360 degrees and there would be no change in the clarity delivered.  For someone with astigmatism, the amount of nearsightness (or farsightedness) is not the same in all directions.  Therefore, lenses (glasses or contacts) that have an orientation are required to fix astigmatism.  i.e. If you spun your glasses' lenses 360 degrees, the vision would become unclear then clear again as the orientation of the lens matched the orientation of your astigmatism.   Just another way to think about it.    dr.j   StudioEyeCare.com
