Oscar buzz: 3D Glasses & Movies

Feb 22 - 2015  |  How do 3D glasses work?  To develop depth on a flat surface (e.g. movie theatre screen) there has to be some way to present different - slightly offset - images to each eye.  This offset occurs naturally in the real word with each of your eyes having a slightly different perspective on objects but for a flat screen to come to life in 3D requires some trickery/technology.  The most common 3D systems use polarizing filters.  The filters have the ability to block certain light angles and allow the independent view required to make the magic happen.  Next time you are waiting for a 3D movie to start... hold 2 pairs of 3D glasses front-to-front and rotate... the screen will disappear due to the blocking properties of the lenses.   Next time I'll post why lots of folks get headaches from 3D movies.  dr.j    Studioeyecare.com
