June 7 - 15 | There is a lot of hype about digital progressive lenses these days... is it worth making sure that your next pair of progressives (i.e. no-line bifocals) are digital? Digital lenses appear prominently in current consumer advertising but they are not really that new. These lenses have been around for over 10 years. The recent promo surge coincides with manufactures phasing out older "conventional" designed/fabricated lenses. So are digital progressive lenses better? The answer is - usually - but not always. Just because a lens is "digital" i.e fabricated with a special, computer driven lathe.... does not necessarily make it better. However, if the retailer takes the time to customize the digital lens product for you... they are truly harnessing the power of the technology and odds are, those new lenses will be great! Getting a great optical solution is a combination effort between the dispenser and actual lens product. Stay tuned for a couple of posts on customized progressive lenses. dr.j Studioeyecare.com
