May 30, 2016 | "My mother has white rings around the brown part of her eyes... Are these cataracts?". This was a good question from a patient this week. The white rings are not cataracts but rather cholesterol deposits that develop in the peripheral cornea (front tissue of eye). The deposits will never effect vision but I advise folks to have their cholesterol levels checked. There is no consistent relationship between the deposits (arcus) and high levels of cholesterol in blood... However, it is a red flag to have assessed. Dr.j. Studioeyecare.com.
